Emek and Tara were climbing toward a mountain shelter before nightfall. They began the final part of the route with 18 food packs. At the first checkpoint, they collected 7 packs from a supply box, but during the steep climb to the next marker, they used 6 packs. At the second checkpoint, they found a delivery containing 16 more packs. The instructions said to divide the delivery equally between their two backpacks, so each received 8 packs. Before the last climb, they used 5 more packs. Emek combined the changes in order: 18 + 7 - 6 + 16 / 2 - 5 = 22. Their route guide recommended having at least 20 food packs before starting the final section. Tara checked each step and agreed that they had 2 packs more than the recommended amount. Confident that their supplies were sufficient, they continued up the trail and reached the mountain shelter safely before sunset.
