At halftime of a close basketball game, Tara and Emek studied the shooting statistics to help their team plan the second half. The scoreboard showed 20 attempts near the basket with a 65% success rate, 16 attempts from mid-range with a 50% success rate, and 10 attempts from long range with a 40% success rate. Tara converted 65% to 0.65 and calculated that 13 near-basket shots had been successful. Emek found 8 successful mid-range shots and 4 successful long-range shots. Although the team had scored from every area, the near-basket shots had both the highest success rate and the greatest number of successful attempts. Based on the comparison, Tara and Emek suggested creating more chances close to the basket. The team returned to the court with a clear shooting plan.
